Happiness

When your eyes seem to open more than usual
When you can feel the air fill your lungs
When your lips curve upwards
And as your mind shifts to your smile
It just widens further.

And you let out a sigh
You amuse yourself
Your legs cross over
Your hands cover your mouth
Holding on to the happiness you radiate.

The most profound is the exhilarating heart
You struggle to believe yet cherish
This happiness which you discovered
Lies within that heart which is celebrating
This happiness you found on your own.

I Wanted to be a Candle

I wanted to be a candle Bright with a flame Lighting up the face Of the movement. I wanted to be a candle Ablaze inbetween fingers Of a fiery envoy Of justice. I wanted to be a candle Alight all its life The harbinger of light In dark times. I wanted to be a candle I had felt the fire inside But when I looked into a mirror I saw a Matchbox instead. My small colourful self Carries not one but several flames Matchsticks for each occasion For every injustice in the way. My fire is contagious It is the spark before the flame I am meant to light the candles I was born to inspire the change.

Her mother and father suggested places where Elena could be but the little girl had already searched those particular places a number of times. Elena wasn’t where she was supposed to be & she wasn’t even anywhere else. Tears sparkled in the eyes of an eight year old girl as she stood looking at an unoccupied bed. She had earlier not wanted to waste time crying but now there seemed to be nothing else to do. The tears rolled down her cheeks, the sobs made their way in her breath and eventually, her cries had brought her parents. They scanned the cupboard & lifted objects around the room but everybody knew Elena wasn’t there. “We will get you another dol...

Will You?

Will you give me the freedom To face the cold alone Yet share your warmth When I reach out to you? When I return shivering Unable to say anything Will you be there for me And wrap yourself around? With my hair scattered And my vision blurred Bare feet on the ground Will you still hold me close? And will you do it Again and again... Like a towel after a winter bath?
